Full-time native English Instructor for General and Business English

Crossroads language Studio in Matsuyama-shi, Ehime-ken Japan is seeking a professional full-time native English teacher to begin working by the end of this year (2018). The school specializes in training adults in general and  business English and uses a trainee-focused program with an emphasis on developing conversation skills. The program and many of the materials used are original to Crossroads and we require our teachers to utilize these materials as well as adopt the school’s general approach and methods.

 

In addition to teaching duties, non-teaching hours during the working day are spent at the school (unless traveling to and from outside job locations) in lesson preparation, resources development, proof-reading assignmants and general assistance to the office staff and management. This will include regular contributions to our monthly newsletter and assistance with posting content on the school’s Facebook page. Teachers should also be available to participate in “Open House” activities chatting with students over a coffee or tea when not teaching or otherwise engaged in more pressing work related activities.

 

The job is five (5) days a week (40 hours), from 1p.m. to 10p.m. – Saturdays are from 10am to 7pm (all schedule formats include a 1 hour dinner break). The maximum classroom teaching load is up to 100 contact hours per month (up to 25 hours per week on average). Teachers also attend regular weekly staff meetings.

About us

Crossroads is a small, specialist school teaching mostly adults General and Business English. We also provide preparation courses for proficiency exams such as TOEIC, IELTS, etc.

 

We have approximately 100 students coming to our school with a similar number of students enrolled in company lessons outside of the school.

 

Crossroads teaches other languages including French, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, Korean and others. There are a number of part-time “native teachers” with us who conduct these lessons, along with two or three part-time native English teachers helping out at Crossroads.

 

We have been established the city for about 35 years. Our school building is located in the central business district of Matsuyama City (population 500,000) a stone’s throw from City Hall and opposite the Prefecture Government building.

What we offer
  • The full-time teacher’s basic salary is 250,000 yen per month (3,000,000 yen per year).

 

  • The contract is for a minimum of one year and is renewable.

 

  • Health insurance coverage is provided.

 

  • Visa sponsorship is also available if required.

 

  • There are three one-week paid holiday periods as well as all national holidays during the year.

 

  • A centrally located furnished apartment conveniently located near the school is arranged by the school - the apartment's deposit is also paid by the school. Rent and utility bills are the responsibility of the teacher.
What we want
  • Applicants must be native speakers of English;
  • Must have a minimum BA/BS;
  • A reputable TESL/TEFL qualification would be prefered;
  • Some overseas teaching experience (especially in Japan) would be an advantage;
  • Currently residing in Japan also prefered;
  • You will need to be a career language teacher at ease teaching adults both general and business English, and comfortable with traveling to company locations (transport provided by the school).
